Guar Gum for Talc Suppression in Gold Processing (Geraldton Area, WA)

1 lab trial (talc suppression)

1 plant trial completed

1 outcome: improved recovery + grade

1 location: Geraldton area, WA

MPL supported a gold processing operation in the Geraldton area to address talc-related performance impacts by supplying the right guar gum product for trialling and scale-up. From lab samples through to a plant trial and ongoing production supply, MPL helped reduce adoption risk and maintain processing continuity once performance gains were confirmed.

The Challenge

A gold ore processing operation in the Geraldton area faced performance impacts from talc, requiring a solution that could improve recovery and enhance grade. The client needed a product suitable for trialling in controlled laboratory conditions before committing to plant scale implementation. Success depended on selecting the right guar gum product, validating outcomes through testing, and ensuring supply continuity if the trial progressed into production. The project required a supplier capable of supporting both the trial phase and the transition to regular supply without disruption to processing operations.

The Solution

MPL supplied guar gum samples for a talc suppression laboratory trial, supporting the client with product selection and timely sample provision to enable testing. Following successful lab results, MPL assisted the transition to a plant trial by coordinating supply planning and delivery timing aligned to operational requirements. MPL focused on quality consistency to ensure trial performance could be replicated at scale. Throughout the process, MPL maintained clear communication to support decision making and ensure the client could move efficiently from trial outcomes to production supply when performance targets were confirmed.

The Result

The laboratory trial was highly successful, demonstrating that guar gum could support talc suppression. A subsequent plant trial delivered measurable improvements, including increased gold recovery and enhanced grade, leading to the commencement of regular guar gum supply for production. MPL provided a reliable supply pathway from trial through to ongoing operations, reducing adoption risk and supporting stable performance in processing. The result was an effective, trial proven solution with a dependable supply partner, enabling the client to sustain improved outcomes in day to day production.
