PVC Blastpipes for Manganese Mine (Pilbara, WA)

3,500 pipes supplied (trial)

2 diameters: 75mm & 115mm

1 region: Pilbara, WA

1 outcome: cost-effective, on-time delivery

MPL supported a time-critical blasting trial in the Pilbara by importing and delivering high-volume PVC blastpipes to specification. With tight project timelines and remote site logistics, MPL coordinated procurement and freight to keep the trial moving, while meeting commercial expectations for cost and delivery performance.

The Challenge

A manganese mining operation required PVC blastpipes for blasting below the water table, supplied as part of a trial program. The scope involved 3,500 PVC pipes in 75mm and 115mm diameter, delivered cost effectively and within the project timeline. The site location in the Pilbara added logistics complexity, and delays could disrupt trial execution and planning decisions. The client needed a supplier that could quickly source the specified products, coordinate delivery into a remote region, and meet commercial expectations without compromising the trial schedule.

The Solution

MPL approached the trial as a time critical supply project, confirming specifications, quantities, and delivery requirements early to reduce procurement risk. MPL coordinated sourcing and freight planning to meet the timeline, with a focus on predictable delivery into the Pilbara. By managing supplier engagement and logistics coordination, MPL aimed to simplify procurement for the client and maintain momentum across the trial program. MPL also focused on cost control by selecting a procurement and delivery plan that met both budget expectations and the operational need to have materials on site when required.

The Result

MPL supplied 3,500 PVC pipes in the required diameters for the blasting trial, delivered cost effectively and on time to the Pilbara region. By providing a dependable procurement and logistics process, MPL helped the mining team complete the trial without avoidable delays and supported timely evaluation of the solution for below water table blasting conditions. The outcome gave the client confidence in both product availability and delivery performance, while reducing the internal effort required to coordinate a large volume order under time pressure in a remote operating environment. Subsequently, MPL secured a contract for 31,000 blastpipes (75mm), completing the delivery on schedule and providing the client with significant cost reductions.
